Making Heat is a basic application for computer science students and hobbyists that can measure the temperature of a reaction as it takes place in real time. Making Heat is compatible with all types of chemical reaction, including simple one-pot reactions as well as more complicated multi-step processes. It can monitor the temperature of up to 10 different reactions. In addition to measuring temperature, Making Heat also provides a graphical display of the progress of the reaction. It also makes it possible to perform calculations on the amount of reactant consumed by the reaction. Setting Up and Running Making Heat To set up and run Making Heat: - Open a command window - Type java -version - If your Java version is not JDK 1.6 or later, type the following: javac -version - Run Making Heat - If the version of Java that you are using is JDK 1.6 or later, type: java -version to check the Java version. - If the Java version is JDK 1.6 or later, use the Java desktop application to set up the correct environment variables (see the section, Setting Up and Running Making Heat for detailed instructions). Jmol is an independent program that was designed for interactive visualization of chemical structures. It's the program that all the examples use. jmol.exe must be in the same folder as Making Heat and the jmol Java application. Making Heat Java File List There are a number of files that make up Making Heat. In order for the program to work the way it's designed, a number of files must be present. In addition to those files listed below, there are also some Java files that you might need to be able to edit Making Heat: File List 1. makingheat.jar - The archive file that contains the program 2. jmol.jar - The Jmol Java application that makes it possible to edit the chemical structure 3. dataprovider.jar - The chemical structure data file 4. jmoljava.properties - The Jmol java application settings 5. makingheat.properties - The program's configuration file 6. input.properties - The chemical name and chemical structure input file 7. Output.properties - The chemical name and chemical structure output file Creating a New Reaction If you are creating a new reaction, be sure to use the correct chemical formula. You can use the Chemical Structure Generator to find the chemical formula. Open the Chemical Structure

Ever wanted to know how much to use? This program can answer this question for you. It can also control an oven, make a calculation for you and give a progress report. Our development team have spent hours trying to explain everything in the same way to everyones needs and experience. The start screen displays a progress meter and list of reactants to be used. There are two buttons to start, one for the calculation and one for the oven. The calculation button will start a batch of calculations. These will run as long as the calculation button is pressed. The progress meter will count up to 100%. This is the number of calculations that will have been made and the total number that will be done. The oven button will start a batch of calculations. These will run until the oven is fully heated. The progress meter will count up to 100%. This is the percentage of the total number that will have been done. If the oven is taken off the progress meter will stop counting. If the whole amount of the reactants in the calculation is used up the result will be displayed. New features: The equation and reactant list has been improved. The program now starts automatically when you start Windows. Screenshots: Version 2.0 The program now starts automatically when you start Windows. The program now starts automatically when you start Windows.
